CAPPADOCIA UNIVERSITY

Guidance and Psychological Counselling Unit

About the Unit

In higher education, student personality services encompass a wide range of support, from student registration to accommodation, health, academic success, social activities, and psychological counselling. Within our university, guidance services are provided to all students who request support in the context of educational, career, and personal–social guidance. Services designed to help students develop effective study habits, enhance their learning processes, and improve academic performance are offered within the scope of educational guidance. Developing positive attitudes toward learning, understanding the relationship between personal characteristics and academic activities, acquiring skills that facilitate learning, and improving decision-making, goal setting, planning, and execution abilities are among the objectives of this process—often referred to as “Learning to Learn.”

Activities aimed at helping students determine their career goals and make informed decisions regarding life after graduation are carried out within the framework of career guidance. This type of guidance seeks to instill key competencies such as developing positive attitudes toward working life and understanding the relationship between personal attributes and professions or occupations.

Guidance activities that help students understand themselves, recognize their emotions, identify their strengths, and cope with personal difficulties fall under the scope of personal–social guidance. Skills such as self-acceptance, understanding and accepting others, understanding social dynamics, decision-making, goal setting, planning and carrying out tasks, self-protection, and ensuring personal safety are among the intended outcomes of this type of guidance.
